What is double cleansing?

Essentially what it sounds like, double cleansing is a two step facial cleansing process. It entails using an oil-based cleanser followed by a conventional cleanser.

Benefits of double cleansing

This method of cleansing your skin is laden with benefits. Here’s why you should try double cleansing:

  • Removes sebum buildup, reducing the likelihood of acne breakouts
  • Allows your other skincare products (i.e. serums) to penetrate your skin better
  • Effectively cleanses your face without stripping your skin of its natural oils and moisture
  • One of the best ways to remove makeup, as the oils dissolves it so you don’t have to resort to harshly scrubbing your face

How to double cleanse

Step 1

The first step entails using a cleansing oil to wash your face (though a cleansing balm or milk can also work). Cleansing oils work to effectively dissolve and remove makeup, sunscreen, oil buildup, debris, and dead skin cells.

Step 2

After using an oil cleanser, use a traditional foam or gel cleanser. This works to remove any traces of your first cleanser, ensuring a thorough clean.
