A Restored Historic Villa in Copenhagen

Once owned by revered Danish architect Poul Henningsen, this historic villa was restored and rebuilt by Norm Architects following a devastating fire. Very little of the original structure was left in the aftermath of the fire, however, a rebuild of the house allowed a significant extension of the top floor, making it well suited for family living.

Currently the home of a family of three, PH House – named after the architect to whom it once belonged – features design elements that reference its original state; parquet flooring, high panels, paned windows, and naturally, nostalgia-inducing PH lamps hanging over the kitchen island.

Taking a minimalist approach, Norm Architects have restored the classic elements of the villa, while elegantly weaving in contemporary touches, serving to create timeless interiors with a warm feeling. The muted colour palette highlights the light-filled nature of the house, with every room in the property bright, airy, and comfortable to be in.

Dark mid-century teak furniture and grey marble plinths are juxtaposed against the plain white walls and the kitchen’s built-in smoked oak furniture. The semi-open plan allows for soft transitions between spaces, with spaces subtly defined by bespoke elements; a floating oak staircase in the centre of the house and a large dark stained oak cabinet separating the kitchen and the living room.
