Reimagined Ecurie Ecosse LM69 Pays Homage To The Jaguar XJ13 That Never Was

Once upon a time, British automotive company Jaguar conceived the Jaguar XJ13, a one-off prototype made specifically for Le Mans. Conceptualised in 1966, the Jaguar XJ13 was the automotive company’s attempt to reclaim the crown at the 1969 French race. However, not all racing stories are fairytales, with a change in homologation standards meaning the Jaguar XJ13 never made it onto the track at Le Mans – or anywhere else for that matter.

Fast forward half a century later and Scottish racing team Ecurie Ecosse proposes that perhaps the Jaguar XJ13’s story isn’t finished. Setting out to build the car they should have competed with in the 1969 Le Mans, Ecurie Ecosse has reimagined the XJ13 in the form of the Ecurie Ecosse LM69.

While not identical to the original, the Scottish racing team ensures their iteration remains “true in spirit and sympathetic to the style” of the Jaguar XJ13. The Ecurie Ecosse LM69 design adheres to the FIA regulations from 1969, almost entirely utilising design details and tech of the time. A slight change comes in the form of the engine; while there’s a period-perfect 5.3-litre V12 version, there’s also a supersized 7.3-litre one, producing 700 hp.

In keeping with the 1969 FIA homologation requirements, only 25 vehicles will be produced, ensuring exclusivity for potential owners.
