2021 Porsche Taycan EV Brings Heritage Craftsmanship To The Electric Era

Marking the fourth addition to Porsche’s all-electric sports saloon, the 2021 Porsche Taycan EV offers a new entry point to the EV lineup, joining the Taycan Turbo S, Taycan Turbo, and Taycan 4S. Since Porsche’s first foray into the electric vehicle market, the German marque has swiftly solidified its place as a key contender in the sector, continuing to produce high-performance vehicles sans fuel.

Taycan, roughly translated to ‘lively young horse’, is a pretty apt name for the prancing horse’s latest addition. The Porsche Taycan EV offers a driving experience unlike any of the marque’s road models, sitting definitely in the sports driving department. While the base model goes from 0-96km/h in 5.4 seconds, the addition of a multispeed transaxle in the Turbo S allows it to do the same numbers in just 2.4 seconds.

The 2021 Porsche Taycan EV base model features the same strengths as its older brothers, like a synchronous motor on the rear axle with an active length of 130 millimetres and the pulse-controlled inverter on the rear axle that operates at up to 600 amps.

Most alluringly, the signature Porsche design DNA is not lost on the Taycan. Appearing low and wide at the front with contoured wings, its silhouette is denoted by a sporty roofline that slopes downwards to the rear as well as the sculptured sides characteristic of the German marque. In typical Porsche craftsmanship, the Taycan features a sleek cabin, strikingly drawn-in C-pillars, and wings with pronounced shoulders; details that work to provide drivers with the full Porsche experience.
