The Iconic Givenchy Antigona Gets A Spirited Padlock-laden Makeover

Though Grecian tragedies may not be the most common source material for luxury fashion houses, there’s something to be said for their passion. A signature piece for the French luxury fashion house, the Givenchy Antigona bag is named after Antigone, the Greek heroine who fought to give her brother a respectful burial.

Instantly recognisable by its clean, yet curved silhouette and architectural construction, the Givenchy Antigona seamlessly blends feminine and masculine traits to form a classic piece. Now, Givenchy creative director Matthew M. Williams has reimagined the Antigona for Givenchy SS21.

The latest iteration of the Antigona sees its handles elongated and positioned significantly lower on the bag’s body, in a play on proportions. Either a zip or magnetic closure features on the roomy central compartment, with Williams’ statement 4G padlock adorning the front. Meanwhile, both the mini Antigona and unisex Vertical bag now come with a removable crossbody strap, cut in leather or in the new G-link chain respectively.

Matthew M. Williams also lent his aesthetic to the Antigona Soft, providing it with a companion in the form of a sleek shopper tote; streamlined and sleek, the tote hybrid features clean lines, a squared silhouette, and a 4G padlock. The masculine Antigona U also emerges as a result of the Williams’ vision. Cut from box-finish leather, it features a deconstructed version of the 4G lock, lending it an edgier, more urban style.

Classic Antigona styles in crocodile-embossed or box-finish leather also recieve a makeover in the form of adornment with the new G-link chain.

The latest Givenchy Antigona accessories are available to shop in physical stores and on the Givenchy webstore.
