On the 9th September, Fendi announced that Kim Jones had been appointed the new artistic director for womenswear, focusing his attention on the Italian fashion houses’ haute couture, fur, and ready-to-wear collections. Silvia Venturini Fendi who assumed the position after Karl Lagerfeld – Fendi’s former creative director – passed away in 2019 will turn her eye to the menswear and accessories collections, saying “I am bound to [Kim] deep respect and friendship. I am looking forward to [taking] the Fendi universe to the next level with him.”

The new role marks Jones’ first dalliance with womenswear and much like his predecessor Lagerfeld, places him in the enviable position of helming two of the world’s major fashion houses. “Working across two such prestigious houses is a true honour as a designer,” said Jones of the appointment, continuing that “to be able to join the house of Fendi as well as continuing my work at Dior Men’s is a huge privilege.”

With a celebrity-laden friend list that includes the likes of Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, and David Beckham, his eye for toeing the line between haute couture and streetwear, and his knack for quirky collaborations, Jones has the power to take Fendi to the next level. Regardless, we’re looking forward to his debut in AW2021.

The appointment of Jones should bring considerable heat to Fendi, given his formidable design chops, flair for unexpected collaborations, and his wide circle of famous friends, including Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Donatella Versace and David Beckham.
