Fendi FW21 Menswear Proposes Functional Silhouettes In Bold Hues

A tonic for the dreary Milan weather, Silvia Venturini Fendi’s take on Fendi FW21 Menswear is optimistically technicoloured. Classic menswear silhouettes are imbued with the signature Fendi touch, with a jewelled colour palette of emerald, saffron, vermillion, orange, fuchsia, cobalt, and periwinkle come into their own in monochrome fits, juxtaposed against the neutral colour palette of black, camel, and charcoal they’re preceded by.

Dynamic and energetic, the show took place in the form of a cinematic sequence directed by Italian artist Nico Vascellari, set against an exclusive track composed by Not Waving, titled What Is Normal Today ft. Silvia. Taking place within an immersive mirrored tunnel, models are infinitely multiplied while walking solo through a maze of neon coloured suspended doorways.

Fendi FW21 Menswear finds unity between functionality and form, resulting in reversible workwear and relaxed outerwear silhouettes. Last year’s unifying theme of cosiness has not been lost, with soft cashmere flannel, striped fur, and shearling forming belted overcoats and trenches. Silk jacquard separates like a shawl collar lounge coat, bermuda shorts, and utilitarian shirt jackets are plumped out with diagonal quilting, creating an enveloping feeling of comfort. ‘Inside out’ tailoring in the form of visible stitching and exposed FF logo linings provide a deconstructed effect, while ribbed and cable knitting are reimagined as warm weather staples; long johns, mitten cuffs, cardigan scarves, and a sweater.

Iconic British artist Noel Fielding provided a series of psychedelic artwork for the collection, with Fielding repurposing the FENDI logo in his eclectic, stream of consciousness style. Faces and creatures emerge from Fielding’s internal narrative, contrasting the streamlined silhouettes of the collection. Fielding’s art also appears on the Fendi FW21 Menswear accessories collection, adorning the peekaboo and an FF buckle tote.
