Reebok Releases First-ever Plant-based Sneaker, Forever Floatride GROW

As talk of sustainability and eco-conscious creation continues to pervade the fashion industry, major industry players are taking notice. English sportswear retailer Reebok has debuted its first plant-based sneaker, Forever Floatride GROW. Tying in with Reebok’s commitment to shift away from the use of petroleum-based plastics, the new sneaker is crafted from entirely plant-based materials.

The Reebok Forever Floatride GROW’s primary trailblazing element is its composition, which reads like the ingredient list of a salad at an experimental vegan cafe; castor beans, eucalyptus trees, algae, and real rubber trees (well, maybe not that last one).

Modeled off Reebok’s Forever Floatride 2, this iteration has been meticulously crafted to fit the sports label’s high performance standards. The running shoe features a highly cushioned, responsive midsole built from sustainably grown castor beans. The biodegradable upper is made with eucalyptus trees, the sockliner utilises naturally harvested BLOOM algae which is odour-resistant, and the outsole is composed of rubber from real rubber trees (as opposed to the petroleum-based rubber conventionally used).

Though designed as a running shoe, the sleek, streamlined silhouette and pared-back neutral whites and beiges of the Reebok Forever Floatride GROW provides the sneaker with a multitude of styling options and sartorial potential.

The running shoe is now available on the Reebok webstore.
