If your dearest darling junior has ever turned their nose up at the Bonpoint, Zara, or – god forbid! – Kmart ensembles you’ve tried to dress them in, never fear, there’s a solution at hand. The brainchild of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, New York City-based The Row has made its first foray into the world of children’s wear with a gender neutral kids collection.

Known for its neutral tones and elegantly pared-back take on dressing, The Row kids capsule retains the minimal approach but adds a whole lot more colour into the equation, taking on a playful yet still elevated colour palette of khaki green, blue, gray, orange, and fuchsia pink. “The items have to have a sense of practicality, ease, and comfort,” Mary-Kate told W Magazine in an exclusive interview. “We think of this for our main collections, but it’s even more important for kids.”
Comprising pullovers, pants, belted cardigans, crewneck sweatshirts, and beanies all cut from luxurious cashmere, as well as velvet slip on shoes, The Row kids collection is practical opulence. Devoid of traditional fastenings like zippers, buttons, and laces, every item can be easily pulled on and off and ensures kids wearing The Row stay comfy on the playground – that is, if they (or more like, their parents) can afford the accompanying price tag. The Row kids capsule is priced between AUD$400 for a beanie up to AUD$895 and ranges from children’s sizes 2 to 10.
“Kids are the heart of creativity,” Ashley told W Magazine. “They should be able to pick and choose what they want to wear, no matter what.” Indeed, the Olsen twins consulted children during the design process, with Mary-Kate adding that “kids bring out a sense of playfulness. They were very vocal and opinionated about what they liked and didn’t like.”
And while your chic, cashmere-wearing little ones are flexing on the jungle gym peasants still decked out in gendered ruffled dresses and chinos, you can rest assured that your hard earned cash is going to a good cause. The Row will be donating proceeds from its kids capsule to charities in Los Angeles, New York, and London that support children’s health, education, and wellbeing.
