Lifelong Vegetarian Stella McCartney Has Launched An Eco-Conscious Vegan Skincare Line

There’s no shortage of celebrity and designer skincare brands on the market. Now, designer and lifelong vegetarian Stella McCartney has entered the fray with Stella, a tightly curated vegan-friendly brand.

“I am not that person who wants to buy into a million products for different areas of my face,” McCartney told WWD. “I don’t want all of that stuff in my life. I want less, and I want it to work. I want it to be honest and to complement my way of thinking, and of living life. I obviously wanted to do the cleanest skincare that we could do in luxury, the purest of the pure.”

Opting for conscious beauty over ‘clean’ beauty, McCartney’s range is designed to strengthen the skin barrier, prioritising long-term vitality over short-term. Created alongside the team at LVMH, the debut Stella offering comprises three hero products; the Reset Cleanser, Alter-Care Serum, and Restore Cream. Each product is truly refillable, with refills coming with a pump lid that can be used on its own without the glass canister. Additionally, products are shipped rather than flown to the US from France — where production takes place — in order to lower the brand’s carbon footprint.

The line has banned almost 2000 ingredients due to their potentially detrimental impact on the environment, while the squalane and phytosterols used in Stella were selected for their renewable nature. Other key ingredients in the line include rock samphire, wild birch sap, cherry blossom extract, wild dulse algae extract, and hyaluronic acid.

Eschewing the fragrance-free philosophy adopted by many brands of late, the Stella line is fragranced. McCartney worked with perfumer Francis Kurkdjian (the nose behind the iconic Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540) to develop a scent inspired by ‘Scotland in April’. The resulting fragrance is both skin- and plant-friendly and uses 89.6% natural-origin ingredients.

Stella is priced from £50 ($85AUD) to £110 ($185AUD) and will be available via the Stella McCartney Beauty webstore.
