While a mention of Jaeger-LeCoultre tends to conjure up rectilinear designs, its more annular creations are not to be overlooked. Possessing all the attributes of a classic dress watch, the latest rendition of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Moon sees it executed in rose gold with a gradient midnight blue dial.
The Master Ultra Thin collection shows off the Swiss manufacture’s savoir-faire, combining technical excellence with elegant aesthetics. As the name suggests, each timepiece in the collection takes on a slim profile — the latest release is a svelte 9.3mm thick — with the case design drawing from the first ultra-thin pocket watch of 1907. Finding beauty in design purity, the 39mm case and bezel combine polished and brushed finishes that works to catch the light, while extended, subtly curved lugs create clean lines with a seamless flow.
“The classically understated aesthetic of the Master Ultra Thin makes it undeniably sophisticated,” notes Lionel Favre, head of design at Jaeger-LeCoultre. “It is the ultimate dress watch.”
Indeed. Here, a moonphase complication holds court on the dial at 6 o’clock, with the date displayed on a surrounding ring to maintain symmetry and visual harmony. Tapered appliqué hour indexes are rendered in rose gold, as is the ‘JL’ logo. Their shape is echoed by the Dauphine hands, with minutes indicated by applied golden dots.
The midnight blue dial features a subtle sunburst gradient effect, radiating from the top half of the dial outwards. The timepiece is presented on a colour-matched blue alligator leather strap.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Moon is powered by the manufacture’s new in-house Calibre 925, a high-performance movement with a power reserve of 70 hours. Its rose gold oscillating weight and côtes de genève finishings are visible through the exhibition caseback.
A welcome deviation from the manufacture’s eternally iconic Reverso, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Moon is a dress watch that uses subtlety to make a statement.
