Harry Styles Aims To Please With The Launch Of His New Gender-Neutral Beauty Brand

Former boyband member, Vogue cover star, two-time Brit award winner, and veritable fashion icon Harry Styles has made his first foray into the beauty world, with the launch of non-binary brand Pleasing. When it comes to personal style, the musician and actor has gone through several eras over the span of a decade, from the preppy polo shirts and chinos phase of the early One Direction years to the printed shirts and Saint Laurent boots stage of around 2013-2012, the Gucci-laden old-school glam rock tailoring of 2017 onwards, to the introduction of looser silhouettes and binary-busting sartorial items over the past couple of years.

Alongside his contemporaries like A$AP Rocky, Harry Styles has been instrumental in normalising wearing garments and making style statements typically categorised as feminine, like painted nails, pearls, dresses, and sometimes even ballerina tutus. Naturally, Pleasing follows the same tone, debuting with a carefully curated range of skincare and beauty products for all ends of the binary spectrum. While the idea behind the creation of Pleasing was initially born during the pandemic and focused solely on nail polish, the brand developed into something more.

“When we eventually named it Pleasing, it felt like it was so much more than nail polish,” musician and Pleasing founder Harry Styles told Dazed in an interview. “I’ve always found that the moments in my life which have brought me the most joy are the small ones, whether it be, you know, the end of the night under the stars or a bite of food, or sitting with your friends thinking, ‘Oh, I’m never gonna forget this’. It’s always those moments that I find have the longest-lasting effect on me, in terms of sparking something wonderful in me.”

Last year, Styles appeared on the cover of American Vogue, making him the first male to score a solo cover in the magazine’s 108 year history.

A vegan and cruelty-free range, the initial launch comprises four shades of nail colourful polish (Perfect Pearl, Pearly Tops, Inky Pearl, and Granny’s Pink Pearls); Perfect Pearl, a white shade designed to be worn on its own or complement the other hues; The Pearlescent Illuminating Serum, a moisturising serum formula with added mica to provide a subtle shimmer; and The Pleasing Pen, a serum duo featuring a refreshing eye gel and demi-matte lip treatment. Aimed around illuminating and highlighting rather than concealing, as Styles puts it, “I really think that the essence of Pleasing is finding those little moments of joy and showing them to people.”

The Pleasing range is available worldwide, shoppable via the Pleasing webstore
