In This Tokyo Home, The Aston Martins Are The Art

Synthesising the differing yet aligned worlds of automotive design and architecture, Aston Martin has teamed up with Japanese real estate leader VIBROA to design № 001 Minami Aoyama, a private residence in the Omotesando area of Minami Aoyama, one of Tokyo’s foremost architectural and style centres.

While the British marque has previously designed residences — namely Sylvan Rock located two hours outside Manhattan and the Aston Martin Residences in Miami, with the latter already 97% sold out ahead of the waterfront tower’s opening in 2023 — № 001 Minami Aoyama marks its first foray into the Asian market. Designed by Aston Martin designers alongside a local architect, the four-storey home embodies Aston Martin’s singular aesthetic principles throughout both the exterior build and interior styling of the property.

The home features an automotive gallery, wine cellar, home cinema, gym, and private spa; the first of which differentiates the home from other luxury residences and allows the duo of Aston Martins housed within it to act as works of art in themselves.

“The influence of Tokyo culture, with its amazing history and style, holds an important creative space within our design studio,” said Marek Reichman, executive VP and CCO of Aston Martin. “I see fashion, architectural and even culinary references being considered by our team when developing their work, so its presence can really be felt within our practice.”

The architecture of № 001 Minami Aoyama is tailored to the idiosyncratic nature of the landscape in which it sits. Outside, a striking form is defined by clean lines and subtle transitions, allowing residents to connect with and experience the unique location. Inside, the senses are catered to with a combination of elements and materials creating a calm, relaxing space intended to promote respite and relaxation. The colour scheme is kept dark yet not moody, complemented by the use of tactile, textural elements and abundant plant life.

The project is in line with Aston Martin’s plans for wider strategic growth in Japan. “As Aston Martin grows in Japan, we are passionate about finding innovative ways to bring our ultra-luxury brand to life and resonate with local consumers,” said Greg Adams, regional president of Aston Martin in Japan and South Korea. “We are delighted to be working with VIBROA, helping create what we believe is a perfect home for an Aston Martin owner, with design elements inspired by our breathtaking portfolio of ultra-luxury and high-performance cars.”
