Luxurious Textures & Rich Materiality Evoke A Los Angeles Vibe In This Brisbane Store

Australian clothing brand SIR. has expanded its domestic retail footprint with a second boutique in Brisbane, following the success of its Bondi flagship store debut. Designed to allow SIR. customers to engage with the lifestyle brand in a physical sense, the James Street store is the result of a collaboration with Tamsin Johnson; the renowned interior designer behind the breezy Bondi flagship space.

Situated in a discreet location on James Street’s buzzy urban retail and lifestyle precinct, Johnson was tasked with creating a unique feel for the store, relishing the opportunity to create a space with slightly more edge and contrast than the maritime-style Bondi location.

“Brisbane has an edge to it. It is not ‘coastal’ exactly and seems to have its own unique character,” said interior designer Tamsin Johnson. “There is a faint ‘LA’ feeling that permeates, so I wanted to capture that with this space, while remaining quintessentially SIR.”

The James Street space takes on a Los Angeles-style cosmopolitan feel, with an interplay between hard and soft present in the space. Aggregate concrete floors and muted white carpet walls are enlivened with vintage timber details and smokey green-grey Venetian glass bricks, while silvery stainless steel elements add a hint of severity and edge. The space is warmed by terracotta carpets and a large-scale azure rug.

The soft-meets-hard aesthetic is further reinforced by truncated curves and organic forms, as seen in the statement coffee table, placed alongside complete arched doorways. Vintage furniture is dotted around the store, with their warmth contrasting the sleeker finishes.

Representing a new destination for customers to immerse themselves in the SIR. brand, the James Street store is equal parts aspirational and welcoming, with people coming for the clothing and staying for the decor.
