The Rolls-Royce Black Badge Cullinan Blue Shadow Has Stars In Its Eyes

Rolls-Royce looks to the skies for its latest limited-edition creation. An ode to the boundless beauty and mystery of space, the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Cullinan Blue Shadow draws inspiration from the Kármán Line; the invisible boundary 100km above the Earth’s surface where our planet ends and outer space begins.

For Rolls-Royce, this translates into an assemblage of deep blue shades. The bespoke Stardust Blue exterior paintjob reflects the rich blue of the upper layers of the Earth’s atmosphere, while the satin-tinted grille surround and aero bumper insert sets recall the finish of thermal tiles used to shield homebound Space Shuttles from the heat of atmospheric reentry.

Continuing the spacecraft theme, the Spirit of Ecstasy has been rendered in titanium using 3D printing techniques and is finished with a layer of blue-tinted lacquer. The wheels of the Blue Shadow are also darked using a translucent lacquer.

Inside, a celestial roof lining composed of 250,000 stitches create an embroidered moon, while 1183 blue and white fibre-optic lights shine through perforated holes to make up the twinkling Starlight Headliner.

Meanwhile, the painted fascia and door panels reflect the blue halo effect at the Kármán Line, with each created using six layers of paint composed of five different shades of blue combined with a deep black hue to produce a three-dimensional effect. The fascia also houses a bespoke clock, which features light blue anodized details and unique Blue Shadow engraving.

In a first for the British marque, the front and rear seats feature a perforated artwork, inspired by the view of Earth from outer space. Each seat contains over 75,000 perforations, redolent of clouds swirling over the continents and oceans.
