HA HA HA; Harry Styles Has Made His Design Debut For Gucci

Gucci is not the same As It Was.

In a collaboration so fitting it seems like it should have happened aeons ago, Gucci has teamed up with Harry Styles to create a sartorial capsule collection. A natural fit, the 28-year-old singer/songwriter/actor/first-time designer has long been a fan of the Italian fashion house, often exclusively sporting custom Gucci suits on tour.

Now, Styles has partnered with long-time friend and Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele on a very stylish — sorry — collection.

“The idea of working together came to me one day while we were talking on the phone, I proposed creating a ‘dream wardrobe‘ with him, starting from those small oddities that come together in childlike visions,” explained Michele of the origins of the collaboration via a press release. “We ended up with a mix of aesthetics from 1970s pop and bohemian to the revision of the image of the gentleman in an overturned memory of men’s tailoring.”

Dubbed ‘HA HA HA’, the name of the capsule is both referential of the first initial of both Styles’ and Michele’s names, as well as the laughing emoji the duo typically end their message exchanges with. A unisex collection, HA HA HA unites classic British tailoring with funky prints — think teddy bears, lamb, and cherry motifs — as well as timelessly stylish checked patterns and animal print adorning luxurious Prince of Wales wool, tweed, and twill. Silhouettes unite a rakish sensibility with louche ‘70s style. Sharp suits feature flared hems and wide lapels, while silk pyjamas are paired with sweater vests.

“The idea of this capsule is banal in its simplicity, and it’s an act of love, but it has value, it’s sophisticated and we paid a lot of attention to fabrics and sartorial details,” said Michele. “It was a lighthearted activity and easy with this kind of relationship. But the result is serious.”

The one-off collection will be available in October, with the potential to be showcased at Milan Fashion Week.
