From George Clooney and Randy Gerber’s Casamigos and Ryan Reynolds’ Aviation Gin to Nicki Minaj’s MYX Fusions and the Matthew McConaughey-approved Wild Turkey, celebrity alcohol is far from a new concept. However, despite her family’s penchant for launching new businesses, Kendall Jenner remains an unexpected entrant into the celebrity alcohol category.
The model/reality star/nepo baby first took to Instagram in 2021 to soft launch her tequila.
“For almost 4 years I’ve been on a journey to create the best tasting tequila,” she shared in a caption. “After dozens of blind taste tests, trips to our distillery, entering into world tasting competitions anonymously and WINNING. 3.5 years later i think we’ve done it! this is all we’ve been drinking for the last year and i can’t wait for everyone else to get their hands on this to enjoy it as much as we do! @drink818 coming soon.”
The resultant label, 818 Tequila, has been warmly received in the US and UK, making its Australian debut an anticipated one. “We are thrilled to be launching 818 Tequila in Australia and we hope that 818 will find success here as it has all over the world,” says Kendall Jenner, founder of 818 Tequila. “818 is all about a sense of community and bringing people together, and we think our ethos aligns perfectly with the Australian consumer.”
The four-piece collection comprises Tequila Blanco, an ultra-smooth blend with a bright and crisp citrus finish with notes of almond, key lime pie, and toasted coconut; Tequila Reposado, a bolder liquid with notes of cooked agave and pecan pie with a smooth caramel finish; Tequila Añejo, a deep and complex tipple defined by notes of orange peel, chocolate, and toffee; and the pièce de résistance, Eight Reserve, composed of a blend of Añejos aged up to eight years in French and American barrels presented in a hand-crafted decanter that doubles as an objet d’art.
818 Tequila is priced from $100AUD and is now available at select Liquorland and First Choice Liquor Market stores, ahead of a nationwide rollout on the 4th of October.
