The Latest Ferrari 812 Superfast Competizione Is Like, Really Fast

Fast, furious, and oh so loud, the Ferrari 812 Competizione is here, along with a Targa-top version, the 812 Competizione A. Both variations on the Italian marque’s ever-popular 812 Superfast, the 812 Competizione is a dynamic, track-focused model.

Riffing off the 812 Superfast’s naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine, Ferrari has boosted the output of the the 812 Competizione which now tops out at 9,500rpm (up from 9000rpm). The use of light titanium connecting rods and an internal ‘diamond-like’ carbon coating both work to benefit performance, fuel consumption, and wear.

The modifications allow the Ferrari 812 Competizione to produce an impressive 818 hp and 510 ft-lbs of torque at 7,500rpm. Zooming from 0-100km/h in 2.85 seconds, the 812 Competizione hits a top speed of 340km/h.

Upon first sighting, the Ferrari 812 Competizione is markedly different to its predecessor, with its proportions setting it apart from the 812 Superfast. The sporty, racing element of the 812 Competizione is emphasised, with an angular front end featuring a bonnet with a transverse groove, working to disguise the air vents for the engine bay. The result is a clean, more sculptural bonnet that adds to the 812 Competizione’s dynamism. The addition of louvers in the wings join the bonnet to provide 10% more efficient engine cooling than that of the 812 Superfast.

Aerodynamics were a key consideration in the making of the 812 Competizione, influencing many of the aesthetic decisions. While the 812 Superfast places engine air intakes on either side of the central griller, the 812 Competitzione adopts an integrated solution with a single air duct, allowing a reduction in weight and losses to the intake plenum and combustion chamber, resulting in overall improved performance.

“Once behind the wheel of the 812 Competizione and the 812 Competizione A, the driver becomes one with the car, regardless of whether it is on road or track,” said Ferrari of the 812 Competizione. “The car guarantees instantaneous responsiveness to commands and absolute control even in the most complex of manoeuvres. Maximum fun behind the wheel and driving exhilaration are ensured at all speeds, thanks in great part to the new independent, four-wheel steering, which delivers exceptional agility and precision in cornering.”
