Lucid has rounded out its Air lineup with a new base-level model. The Lucid Air Pure represents the least expensive sedan the all-electric American marque has released, delivering flagship-level features with a single-motor powertrain.
The Lucid Air Pure has a starting price of $77,400USD; for context, the Air Touring starts at $95,000USD while the top-of-the-line Air Sapphire comes fully equipped at $249,000USD. While it’s a fair jump down in power from the 1234 bhp Air Sapphire, it’s also a third of the price. And, its stats aren’t too shabby either. The single-motor setup delivers 430 bhp and 406 ft-lb of twist, going from zero to 100km/h in just over 4.4 seconds.
With a driving range of 660km between charges, it’s a class leader in its price range — just under 10km more than the Tesla Model S. The rear wheel drive is powered by the marque’s most compact battery pack to date, allowing for ample leg room in the back seat as well as generous storage in the boot. The 88kWh battery pack is able to fast charge at a maximum rate of 250kWh, adding 193km of range in 12 minutes.
Drawing upon mid-century modern design principles, the newcomer takes on a sleek, sporty aesthetic defined by clean lines, a delicately sculpted body, and a low profile. The Lucid Air Pure comes with 19-inch wheels as standard, while the glass roof of the Air Touring is foregone in favour of an aluminium one. Similarly, the base-level version eschews the Nappa leather interiors of its older brothers in favour of synthetic leather and fabric upholstery.
That’s not to say it doesn’t have a luxurious looking cockpit. The well-appointed interiors come standard with a 34-inch curved glass cockpit display, heated front seats, Apple CarPlay, the DreamDrive constellation of advanced driver assistance systems, and the Lucid UX digital environment, while the marque’s patented LED headlight display ensured optimum visibility at night.
