Glashütte Original once again revisits the swinging sixties with the Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition. Looking to a time defined by contrasts, the German manufacture eschews the ostentation of the flower power aesthetic, instead looking to the clean lines and dark shades of the Beat generation.

Designed as a means of quiet individuality, the Glashütte Original Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition features a 42mm stainless steel case that houses a varnished grey gradient dial. The gradient effect emanates from the centre, with a darker tone lining the periphery of the dial to form an eye-catching dégradé effect. The subtly domed dial is also embossed using tools and methods of the time to create textural interest. Arabic numerals 6 and 12 o’clock are complemented by luminous dots and red gold indexes, with the latter material also forming the central hours, minutes, and chronograph hands as well as those on the subdials.
The bicompax layout plays host to both small seconds and 30-minute counter subdials, while the central chronograph function is controlled by the pushers at 2 and 5 o’clock.
Inside, the Glashütte Original Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition is kept beating by the in-house calibre 39-34, an automatic movement that pulses at 4 Hz. Visible through the sapphire glass caseback, each component is hand-decorated, with Glashütte stripes, bevelled edges, polished screws, and a skeletonised oscillating weight crafted from gold and bearing the manufacture’s double-G symbol.
