Of all the beauty brands in the world, no one incites discussion quite like La Mer. The mere mention of the two syllables swiftly garners – largely unsolicited – reactions ranging from praise and devotion to wide eyed awe and all out denunciation. And yet, the luxury American brand  is steeped in mystery. In an era where consumers seek out product transparency, La Mer has managed to stand the test of time, with legions of beauty lovers happily shelling out three figures for that little white pot.

While the signature La Mer Crème de la Mer is undoubtedly what the brand is best known for, today we’re focusing on The Moisturising Soft Cream; a lightweight iteration of La Mer’s signature product. Let’s dive into it.

Name

La Mer The Moisturising Soft Cream

Price

$250AUD/30ml, $665AUD/100ml

Key ingredients

Miracle Broth, Lime tea, Moisturising spheres.

At the heart of every La Mer product is the trademarked Miracle Broth. Crafted from a blend of sea kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera, to be specific), vitamins, minerals, and nutrients like calcium, magnesium, and potassium which are then fermented for three to four months and exposed to light and sound energies, the Miracle Broth is said to be the key to the healing abilities La Mer possesses.

Antioxidant-rich lime tea concentrate works to complement the healing powers of the La Mer Miracle Broth, providing protection against free radical damage.

Unique to the La Mer The Moisturising Soft Cream, this lightweight version utilises moisturising spheres; multi-layered emollient spheres that encapsulate the Miracle Broth and lime tea concentrate to create a soft, easily absorbed cream that sinks into the skin.

How to use it

Unlike the Crème de la Mer which requires you to warm it up in your fingertips before applying, The Moisturising Soft Cream can be gently pressed straight onto your face and neck.

The feel

Rich. Luxurious. Elegant. Exactly what you’d expect from a cream that costs $250 an ounce. Despite its hydrating abilities, it sinks in quickly, leaving your skin supple without feeling heavy or greasy.

The benefits

Intensely moisturising yet lightweight, The Moisturising Soft Cream sinks into skin easily, making it the ideal formula for those with combination or normal skin types who still desire extra nourishment.

Created by NASA scientist Max Huber in 1965, the La Mer Miracle Broth that runs through the entire product line possesses healing properties, with the nutrient rich formula helping to soothe inflammation and even heal scars and burns.

AR verdict

Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Also yes. While many may argue that you can get similar moisturising benefits from a drugstore cream, there’s nothing like the feeling of slathering your skin in La Mer. Akin to angels caressing your face, using La Mer The Moisturising Soft Cream is a transcendent experience, going beyond the worldly realms of skincare. Try it at least once.

The La Mer The Moisturising Soft Cream is available on the La Mer webstore.
