ashtrays as decor

Rediscovering The Lost Art Of The Ashtray

Let us lead you astray.

Yes kids, smoking is bad for you. Back in ye olde days, before the long term health effects of smoking were widely known, ashtrays could be found on cafe tables and atop coffee tables, in airplanes, cars, and bars. But as smoking declined, so did the ubiquitous nature of ashtrays. However, these often ornate, decorative pieces shouldn’t have to pay for the crimes of smoking.

After all, an ashtray doesn’t necessarily have to be used as, well…an ashtray. These shallow vessels are both functional and chic, serving as storage for trinkets, keys, jewellery, spare change, and stray lipsticks. Whether you feel like your coffee table is missing that special je ne sais quoi or simply need a receptacle to house your rings while you do the dishes, consider using an ashtray. Here are our Albert Review approved picks.
