Automotive evidence that brawn needn’t be antithetical to sophistication, Wisconsin-based custom car builder and parts manufacturer Ringbrothers has modified a 1965 Ford Mustang convertible. With over 4000 hours of work put into the design, the resultant vehicle — dubbed ‘Uncaged’ — is more akin to a custom build than a modification, with the wheel centre caps the only remaining factory-spec component.

Built from the tyres up, there’s a new Roadster Shop FAST TRACK chassis under the metal. The bodywork is directly integrated into this to create a unibody effect, with the custom fit seeing the ‘stang widened by an inch on both sides. Each of the panels of the 1965 Ford Mustang has been lowered and extended, while the fenders have been adjusted to blend into the body. Continuing the seamless flow, the front bumper has been tucked in and fused to the custom front valance. The iconic Mustang rear light bezels, side scoops, and running horse emblems have been custom-built by Ringbrothers.
The 1965 Ford Mustang rides on Continental tyres wrapped around one-off 18-inch wheels that mirror the style of the Mustang’s Rally wheels. The convertible is dressed in BASF Glasurit’s Burgundy Brave while the chrome details have received a ceramic coating. A redesigned front grille has been recessed to improve air intake to the 5.0-litre Coyote V8 crate engine.
The Ford Performance 5.0-litre Coyote V8 pumps out 460 bhp with 420 ft-lbs of twist, feeding power through a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Designed by Sean Smith Designers, the interior takes on a refined tone, with an abundance of cognac-coloured leather and a bespoke steering wheel that pays homage to the Mustang’s original. Custom instrumentation by Dakota Digital further leans into the old-school cool vibe, while latticework window cranks are an artful touch.
