Ryan Gosling Goes (Kinda, Not Really) John Wick In New Film For TAG Heuer

A tale of three Carerras takes place in The Chase for Carrera, a new action comedy short film starring Ryan Gosling. Produced by David Leitch’s 87North Productions, responsible for iconic action films such as John Wick and Bullet Train, and directed by Nash Edgerton, of Mr Inbetween fame, The Chase for Carrera places the TAG Heuer Carrera (not to mention, a Porsche 911 Carrera) front and centre.

Opening in an art-deco hotel corridor, the short film stars TAG Heuer ambassador Ryan Gosling, alongside American actress Vanessa Bayer. In a nod to the film-within-a-film style, producer David Leitch plays himself as the on-screen director.

An apt way to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the TAG Heuer Carrera, the short film sees Gosling and Bayer partake in a high-octane chase, racing the aforementioned sports car icon, heavy-duty trucks, and eclectic production buggies across various movie sets. The impetus behind the face-off? Bayer’s Prop Master attempting to retrieve Gosling’s TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph. Seems justified.

The particular timepiece in question is the latest iteration of the Carrera Chronograph. Topped with a ‘glassbox’, a sapphire crystal dome that seamlessly encases the tachymeter scale that runs around the dial edge for a smoother finish, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph is executed in a deep blue hue which continues onto the leather strap. It’s not the only Carrera in town though, with Bayer also sporting a new TAG Heuer Carrera in pink.

Gosling’s partnership with TAG Heuer doesn’t end with The Chase for Carrera, with the actor set to sport different iterations of the Carrera in multiple upcoming Hollywood roles. Last year, the actor could be seen wearing the pared-back Carrera Three Hands in his role as the stoic Agent Six in The Grey Man, and will be donning a Carrera Chronograph for his next role in The Fall Guy, a film not-so-coincidently directed by David Leitch.

“This campaign is wildly different from not only everything we’ve done together, but I think, anything they’ve ever done before,” said Ryan Gosling. “I was working with David Leitch on The Fall Guy and was enjoying it so much that I asked him while we were filming an action scene if he would be interested in collaborating on my new campaign with the brand. Since the film was about making a film, we thought it made sense that the commercial be about making a commercial.”

“TAG Heuer has always had a close connection to Hollywood, with our timepieces worn on the wrists of silver screen legends across the decades, from Steve McQueen to our very own Ryan Gosling,” noted Frédéric Arnault, CEO of TAG Heuer. “And the Carrera has always been more than just a timepiece – born from the racetrack, it’s a statement of daring and adventure as much as it is the epitome of elegance.”
