Holiday like Kaiser Karl.

Although there’s no shortage of grandeur when it comes to the properties dotted along the coast of the Cote d’Azur, few boast the couture credentials of Villa La Vigie. The longtime summer getaway of late fashion designer and former Chanel and Fendi creative director Karl Lagerfeld, Villa La Vigie is now available for rent – provided you can spare $23,000 a night.

A staple on the coastline since 1902, Villa La Vigie was built in the Belle Epoque design style, identifiable through the distinctive wall panelling, columns, and crown moulding throughout the property. The expansive estate spans three levels and comprises six bedrooms (meaning you can split the hefty bill with eleven of your best mates), four bathrooms, two dressing rooms, a library, a billiards room, a 2500 square ft terrace, and a several shared living and dining spaces, meaning there’s no shortage of space.

The German fashion director purchased the property in 1988, five years after he began what would be a decades-long tenure at Chanel. Karl Lagerfeld subsequently renovated Villa La Vigie to his tastes and held the property until his passing in 2019, at which time it was purchased by a private real estate firm. Now, the iconic getaway is available for rent to the general public through luxury vacation rental platform Edge Retreats, with prices starting from $23,000 AUD and going up to $70,000 AUD in the high season. “Villa La Vigie is unparalleled,” CEO of Edge Retreats Aurelie Lepercq said in a statement. “[The villa] is one of the most prestigious on the French Riviera thanks to its history, architecture, exquisite decor and prime location.”
