When it comes to grail cars, the Porsche 911 tops many people’s lists. Introduced to the public in September 1964, the Porsche 911 was conceived by the late Ferdinand-Alexander ‘F. A.’ Porsche as a larger, more powerful replacement for the debut Porsche 356. Placing equal emphasis on form and function, the Porsche 911 remains a staple in the German marque’s lineup to this day, albeit with more variation and opportunities for customisation.

To celebrate what would be F. A. Porsche’s 90th birthday, Porsche Sonderwunsch (the marque’s special request programme) has teamed up with Mark Porsche, the legendary designer’s youngest son, to create the commemorative 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche. Released in a limited run of 90 examples, one will go to Mark Porsche with the other 89 available to customers worldwide.
The 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche is based on the 911 GT3 with the Touring Package, meaning it’s fitted with the marque’s 4.0-litre flat-six naturally aspirated engine, boasting 502 bhp and 331 ft-lb of torque. The GT3 Touring comes with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, however the transmission of the special edition model is unspecified.

The commemorative model contains several nods to the father of the 911. It’s bathed in a custom shade of green, called F. A. Greenmetallic, which is inspired by the Oakgreenmetallic of F. A. Porsche’s own 911. The Porsche 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche rides on Sport Classic wheels painted in satin gloss black, inspired by the classic Fuchs rims and bearing the historic 1963 crest on the wheel hub covers. The grille of the boot also features a galvanised gold-plated badge with the ‘90 F. A. Porsche’ logo.

Inside, the central seat panels are fitted with F. A. Grid-Weave fabric, which echoes the pattern of Ferdinand-Alexander Porsche’s favourite jacket and complements the Truffle Brown Club Leather upholstery. The fabric pattern incorporates shades of black, green, truffle brown, cream, and bordeaux red. “My father’s favourite jackets were patterned like this,” said his son Mark Porsche. “Like his pencil, pipe, and ashtray, these jackets felt like part of my childhood and inextricably linked to his office at home.”
The Sport Chrono clock on the instrument cluster was inspired by the original Chronograph 1, created as a one-off piece for F. A. Porsche; while the walnut plywood gear knob is adorned with a plaque engraved with F. A. Porsche’s signature and the storage compartment in the centre console is embossed with the same design as the badge on the luggage compartment lid.

Each owner of the 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche will receive an exclusive version of the Chronograph 1, crafted from titanium and laden with a roster of its own commemorative details including the signature of F. A. Porsche laser-engraved on the case back and the rotor of the automatic movement in the same shape and colour as the wheels on the collector’s car.
“I’m sure that my father would have loved this very special 911,” says Mark Porsche.
The 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche is priced from $387,000USD before options and ORC, with 89 examples available for purchase.
