The new classic.

Marking the second of four collector’s items from the Porsche Heritage Design strategy, the new Porsche 911 Sport Classic is limited to just 1,250 examples worldwide. Drawing inspiration from the style of the 1960s and early 1970s, the 911 Sport Classic is inspired by both the original 911 Turbo S (1964-1973) and the 1972 911 Carrera RS 2.7.1.

Created by Porsche Manufaktur, the Porsche Sport Classic unites classic design touches like the Carrera’s ducktail spoiler, a wide body, double-bubble roof, and retro graphics with contemporary innovation and technology seen in its high-powered nature. In true classic form, it’s a manual transmission with rear-wheel drive. The bodywork looks to the ‘Fashion Grey’ paintwork of the early Porsche 356, a stylistic choice that was also employed on the first 997-generation Sport Classic launched in 2009. If the new Sport Grey Metallic finish isn’t your style, there are also Black, Agate Grey Metallic, Gentian Blue Metallic, or Paint to Sample colourways available.

“The Heritage Design models represent the most emotionally driven concepts of the Porsche product strategy,” says Alexander Fabig, vice president of Individualization and Classic. “This unique approach sees the Style Porsche design department working with Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur to reinterpret iconic 911 models and equipment from the 1950s through to the 1980s and to revive design features from those decades.”

Representing the most powerful manual 911 available, the Porsche Sport Classic is fitted with a 3.7-litre, twin-turbo flat-six engine transmitting 550PS (405kW) via the rear wheels only. Combined with a seven-speed manual gearbox with an auto-blip function that compensates for engine-speed differences with bursts of revs when downshifting, it represents a unique driving experience. The suspension is based on that of the 911 Turbo and 911 GTS models, with standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) combined with sports suspension which features a 10mm-lower ride height.

If the 911 Sport Classic itself wasn’t enough, Porsche has also created a chronograph exclusively available to drivers who purchase the vehicle. A product of Porsche Heritage Design, the chronograph is imbued with several details inspired by the car. The 911 Sport Classic is now available for order, starting at $599,100AUD before on-road costs.
