Kith’s Braided Birkenstocks Are For Hippie Hypebeasts

American streetwear and lifestyle brand Kith has teamed up with German shoe manufacturer Birkenstock on a collection of — you guessed it — birkenstocks. This isn’t the duo’s first link-up, with previous collaborations treating the Arizona and Boston sandals to premium suede outers with shearling lining, all executed in Kith’s signature nature-meets-street colour palette.

This time, Kith updates the Birkenstock London silhouette. Debuted in 1986, the London was the German footwear label’s first closed-toe and closed-heel shoe, deriving its front end from the Boston blog. Originally designed to meet the needs of healthcare professionals who were continually on their feet, the utilitarian stompers have long transcended their practical origins and are worn by travellers and hypebeasts alike.

The Kith x Birkenstock London sees the silhouette’s pared-back design reimagined with a braided central element encircling the entire perimeter of the shoe, connecting the upper to the midsole and lending the formerly unbroken silhouette a slightly bohemian tone.

First teased on Kith founder Ronnie Fieg’s instagram, the collaboration comprises three colourways, each executed with suede uppers and bearing a debossed Kith script buckle strap. The Black and Taupe colourways are monochromatic and come with the style’s standard cork footbed, while the Biscuit colourway features a shearling footbed and lining and has a contrasting green midsole.

Pricing is yet to be announced, with the Kith x Birkenstock collaboration available from the 1st of December via the Kith webstore.
