Ralph Lauren Is Set To Smash The Australian Open Style Stakes

American fashion label Ralph Lauren is switching out the polo stick for a tennis racquet, having been named official outfitter of the Australian Open. Although on court fashion is always of interest, and there’s no shortage of style in the royal box at Wimbledon, there’s long been a sartorial disparity between those serving up and spectating, and those who officiate.

Fortunately, things are looking up for ballkids, umpires, and linespeople in the style stakes, with the Australian Open marking the third Grand Slam addition to Ralph Lauren’s portfolio, joining Wimbledon and the US Open.

“The Ralph Lauren style and sophistication will bring a fresh new look to the Australian Open and the uniform designs reflect the contemporary, playful and premium AO brand,” said Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley. “Our shared commitment to excellence, innovation and creativity, along with a deep connection to history and tradition, form the base of this exciting new long-term partnership.”

Designed with the Melbourne heat in mind, the collection prioritises function while reinforcing Ralph Lauren’s commitment to sustainability. Made from fabric derived from plastic bottles, the collection comprises long and short-sleeved polo shirts (naturally), half-zip tops, blazers, shorts, skorts, and trousers, and will have moisture-wicking features and UV protection.

Polo Ralph Lauren will also be running a pop-up store for the duration of the tournament, allowing spectators to customise their own classic Ralph Lauren pieces with their initials.
