TAG Heuer Throws It Back To The Good Gold Days For 2024

From a yacht-ready timepiece in precious metal to a more complicated take on its seminal rectilinear chronograph, there’s a lot to love about the new TAG Heuer releases coming out of Watches & Wonders 2024. Let’s get into it.

Carrera Chronograph Skipper

Based on an archival timepiece (that debuted in 1968 under the leadership of Jack Heuer), TAG Heuer made its return to the world of yachting with the release of the Carrera Chronograph Skipper last year. While that debut saw it executed in steel, the La Chaux-de-Fonds manufacture has released a rose gold follow up. Based on the ‘glassbox’ design unveiled at the beginning of last year, the Carrera Chronograph Skipper is powered by a modified version of the Heuer 02, specifically adapted for regatta timing. The rose gold newcomer features the same proportions as the steel variant, but the overall appearance is more elevated thanks to a combination of fine brushed and polished finishes. We’re fans of the way the deep blue dial and tri-coloured chronograph counters pop against the rose gold case and hour markers.

Carrera Chronograph

My little panda. While the glassbox Carrera has gained the lion’s share of attention over the past year, TAG Heuer has also updated the mainline Carrera. Looking to the 7753 SN (an acronym for ‘silver’ and ‘noir’) from the late 1960s, the latest Carrera Chronograph features a silver dial with black subdials and is designed with legibility front of mind. The black azuré subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock contrast with the silver sunray-brushed dial, while red-lacqured subdial hands create contrast to allow for better readability. The 39mm steel Carrera Chronograph incorporates the manufactures glassbox design, the the domed sapphire crystal encasing the entirety of the dial and tachymeter bezel.

Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph

Last year the La Chaux-de-Fonds manufacture released a series of skeletonised Monaco references. Further iterating on those releases, the new TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph is crafted from titanium and sees the addition of a split-seconds function. The timepiece is available in red or blue, with both variants featuring an open caseback that provides an unobstructed view of the calibre TH81-00 within. The caseback is designed to give the impression of a floating oscillating weight, further adding to the visual experience.

Carrera Date

Finally, the manufacture has added three new dressy references to the Carrera Date line. Each of the references clocks in at 36mm; the first combines a copper dial with a snailed brushed finish with a rose gold bezel and crown and a two-tone stainless steel and rose gold bracelet.

The second reference teams a white mother-of-pearl dial and rose gold hour markers with a steel case and diamond-set bezel, while the third reference features the same dial and case combination, albeit with diamond hour markers.
