Fendi & SKIMS Collide In A Skin-Tight Capsule To Make Kim²

The SKIMS you guys… is this necessary?

The modern woman is here and she wears… SKendi? Fendi and SKIMS, helmed by Kim Jones and Kim Kardashian West respectively, have collaborated on a capsule collection. With luxury fashion houses collaborating at top speed to form haphazard offspring collections like we’re in some sort of sartorial handmaid’s tale, a Fendi x SKIMS collaboration had the potential to be…unnecessary, to say the least.

However, this is, like, actually really good. Fendi x SKIMS – like previous Fendi collections under Jones – draws upon archival Fendi sketches from a collection presented by Karl Lagerfeld in 1979. The ‘70s collection placed an emphasis on twisted tube tops, pop colours, and tight sashes, with Fendi x SKIMS fusing the SKIMS attention to fit and form with past and present Fendi house codes.

“Both FENDI and SKIMS have a cultural power very different from each other, but equally as strong,” reflects Kim Kardashian West. “We share a desire to push boundaries, think differently and challenge convention which is why we found so much common ground collaborating on this collection together.”

Taking on a colour palette of bright hues of pinks, purples, and deep orange interspersed amongst the neutral tones SKIMS typically uses, the Fendi x SKIMS collection naturally features form-fitting shapewear and hosiery emblazoned with both brands’ logos in a diagonal all-over pattern. However, the collection extends beyond undergarments, with bonded leather dresses deriving inspiration from Roman aesthetics to create a sculptural effect, bodycon knitwear, skin-tight velour dresses, sportswear, and reversible jersey pieces.

“My FENDI is about creating something for every woman, every different shape – and that’s something at the heart of SKIMS too,” explains Kim Jones. “Kim Kardashian West is doing a lot to celebrate inclusivity – including her admirable work with social justice in America – and as a hard-working woman with a family, she is constantly striving to do her best. These values are something to celebrate.”

Designed as a collection for the modern woman, the distinct aesthetic codes of both Fendi and SKIMS are united in the capsule, without one being sacrificed for the other (read. Fendace). All in all Fendi x SKIMS (or Kim²) makes for a symbiotic collaboration.

Fendi x SKIMS will be available from 2nd November onwards on the new Fendi SKIMS webstore, as well as in select Fendi physical stores worldwide.
