No longer relegated to the confines of your house, lingerie has been fair game to wear outside for a few years now, with exposed lingerie pioneers including Madonna, Kate Moss, Rihanna, and Bella Hadid. However, liberating your underwear from the boudoir doesn’t have to look quite so…exposed.

How to wear lingerie as outerwear
1. Rethink corsetry
Unlike their 18th and 19th century predecessors, today’s 21st century corsets come without the risk of fainting. Pulling off a corset as outerwear is all about layering; try using an underbust corset to cinch a button-down shirt, layer a corset belt over a dress, or style a lacy corset with a blazer and tailored trousers.
Playing with proportions is the trick to pulling off a corset; to offset the inherent sexiness of a corset, pair it with oversized or tailored pieces.
2. Slip into it
90s style slip dresses are back in a big way. While simply throwing one on with heels works for a slinky nighttime outfit, to make them work during the day, layer a slip dress over a white t-shirt or turtleneck.
3. Suit up
Balance out a skimpy bralette or bodysuit by wearing it under a suit; either opt to go monochrome or select a bralette in a contrasting colour.
4. Stay sheer
Sheer fabrics are perfect for hinting at your lingerie while remaining relatively covered. Try a sheer button-up blouse over a bralette, or opt for a sheer dress over a matching high waisted lingerie set.
5. Reverse layering
While wearing your underwear over your pants is a look best reserved for comic book superheroes, wearing a lacey bra or bralette over your shirt is a daring yet chic way to style the underwear as outerwear trend without feeling too exposed.
6. Wrap it up
The perfect transitional piece for those in-between weather days, the kimono is slinky yet stylish. Team a pair of high-rise straight-leg jeans with a tee or camisole and a silk kimono worn open or loosely tied.
