Jack Heuer’s love language was gift giving. TAG Heuer is known for its inextricable ties to the motorsports world, with the renowned watchmaker strengthening this bond by gifting gold timepieces to victorious drivers. Gracing the wrists of the likes of Ronnie Peterson and Nika Lauda, these gold timepieces came to represent the pursuit of excellence.

Paying homage to this golden era, the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph marks the conclusion of the Swiss manufacturer’s 60th anniversary celebrations for the Carrera. Bridging the gap between retro and contemporary, the new timepiece embodies the best of both worlds. Vintage proportions influence the 39mm yellow gold case, while the spirit of the original 1960s designs is conveyed through the balanced tricompax ‘panda’ dial which features contrasting black ‘azure’ subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock and a subtle gold toned subdial at 6 o’clock, sitting above a date window. The black subdials stand out against the brushed yellow gold-plated dial, as does the black lacquered central chronograph hand.
The gold edition of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph utilises the Glassbox design introduced earlier this year, with the sapphire crystal seamlessly enveloping the bezel, allowing the minute scale on the flange to be read with ease. The smooth planes of the case are accented by angular lugs that hark back to the golden timepieces Jack Heuer gave out in his heyday. The vintage allure continues with the chunky gold chronograph pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock.
The timepiece is powered by the in-house Heuer 02, listed as the TH20-00, an automated chronograph movement that allows for bi-directional winding and has a weekend-friendly 80-hour power reserve.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph gold edition is presented on a perforated leather strap, secured with a yellow gold pin buckle.
The timepiece is priced at $31,150AUD and is available via the TAG Heuer webstore.
