The TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Is A Rare Non-Ugly Smartwatch

Although beauty and brains aren’t mutually exclusive, many watches lose the former in pursuit of the latter. Appearing as a beacon among a sea of rather ugly smartwatches, the TAG Heuer Connected watches – first launched in 2015 – bridge the gap between Swiss horology and contemporary technology. Now, the Swiss watch brand has added two new iterations of the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 to its lineup, in 42mm and 45mm case sizes.

Each smartwatch provides access to the TAG Heuer ecosystem of sports activities, wellness apps, and elegant watch faces inspired by heritage chronographs. Both new models take on a distinctly different identity, with the 42mm offering an elegant slimline look akin to that of a dress watch, while the 45mm version is inherently sporty and features a statement ceramic bezel.

“With these two new, very different Connected watches, we hope to bring a new generation of TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 to a wider range of customers, becoming a companion in their daily lives: from business to sports activities to the most elegant dinners,” explained Frédéric Arnault, CEO of TAG Heuer. “Since 2015, TAG Heuer has been a pioneer in the luxury connected watch sector. The development of these new watches highlights how Connected has become a pillar of TAG Heuer, alongside Aquaracer and Carrera, building on 160 years of Swiss watchmaking experience.”

The 42mm TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 utilises a thin case with ergonomic steel pushers, a slim bezel, and tapered lugs. Paired with the steel bracelet or leather strap, it’s at home at a refined event, while subbing in a coloured rubber strap provides it with a more sporty aesthetic. A rugged watch at heart, the 45mm TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 draws elements from classic watchmaking, with a ceramic bezel working to provide it with “an increased sense of flow.” An oversized crown not only contributes to the sporty feel but allows for ease of use, with it able to be adjusted with a single fingertip. The pushers draw from TAG Heuer’s classic watchmaking expertise, boasting a mechanical feel that makes scrolling through messages feel a touch less ‘digital’.

The release of the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 comes complete with a selection of new watch faces, comprising designs based on the brand’s watchmaking heritage to interesting and handy animations. For example, the ‘Riverside’ watch face is animated with an immersive futuristic effect of time elapsing while the new `Wellness` watch face offers information like live heart rate and step count. The new Connected Calibre E4 models also represent a step up in the Tag Heuer Sports app, which now delivers guided workout routines, fitness information, and sports tracking.

The new TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 watches will go on sale in Australia from 10th Marche 2022, with the 42mm priced from $2600 AUD and the 45mm priced from $3250 AUD.
