Born in Moderna, Italy on 18th February, 1898, Ferrari enjoyed an illustrious career as a professional racing driver, winning his first race in 1923 at the age of 25 for Costruzioni Meccanich Nazionali. Following several wins, Ferrari started his own racing team, Scuderia Ferrari, in 1929, which led to the development of the automobile company as we know it today. In 1947, the first Ferrari was released, a 1500cc 12-cylinder engine car that went on to win the Rome Grand Prix later that year.
The Great Characters Enzo Ferrari Edition pens are decked in the signature Ferrari colour Rosso 70 Anni. The cone is engraved with two dates; one being Enzo Ferrari’s birthdate and the second that of his first racetrack victory. The Montblanc emblem that crowns the pen is in yellow resin to represent the city of Modena and is embedded in a metal grid, inspired by a vintage car grill. The ring on the cap tip is engraved with “OFFICINA MECCANICA ALFREDO FERRARI,” a reference to Ferrari’s father Alfredo´s workshop, while the writing tool’s clip is laser engraved with Enzo Ferrari’s words: “You cannot describe passion, you can only live it.”
Limited to 1898 pieces, the Great Characters Enzo Ferrari Limited Edition 1898 writing instrument features a cap and barrel crafted from a metal reminiscent of the surface of the original Ferrari 125 S engine. The Montblanc emblem set atop the pen is in frosted quartz, representing the frozen windows in which Enzo Ferrari would practice his signature as a young boy. The nib of the fountain pen is embellished with a Ferrari 250 GTO wheel and the word “Commendatore,” Ferrari’s nickname.
Finally, the Great Characters Enzo Ferrari Limited Edition 98 is limited to just 98 pieces, in a homage to the Cavallino Rampante – or Prancing Horse – which was bestowed as a personal emblem to the founder of Ferrari 98 years ago. The design of the pen draws inspiration from the shape of early Ferrari racing cars, with the bodywork of the 1952 Ferrari 500 F2 directly referenced. An engraving of the Prancing Horse on the cap is accompanied by the words “Sono uno che ha sognato di essere Enzo Ferrari” (‘I am one who dreamt to be Enzo Ferrari’).
