Sensory-minded Australian skincare label Aesop have expanded their home care offering, with the launch of three aromatic candles. Frankly, we’re surprised Aesop candles weren’t already a thing.

Formulated in collaboration with perfumer Barnabé Fillion (also responsible for the company’s Marrakech Intense, Hwyl, and Rōzu fragrances), the Aesop candle collection comprises a trio of scents, each of which is named after an Ancient Roman or Grecian philosopher.

The range opens with Ptolemy – named after the multitalented Roman scholar who studied the stars – which fuses smoky notes with the verdant scents of cypress and vetiver. Then there’s Aganice which derives its name from the first female astronomer of Ancient Greece, and seamlessly blends the bright floral notes of mimosa with headier cardamom and tobacco. Lastly, Callippus – taking its name from the Greek astronomer and mathematician – is marked by resinous frankincense and earthy vetiver.

“We took inspiration from ancient astronomy and associated mythologies, and considered the historical significance of candles, seeking new aromatic blends that would engender a sense of equanimity and refuge from workaday concerns,” says Dr Kate Forbes, innovation director at Aesop. “As is customary in our partnership with Barnabé, scientific rigour worked hand-in-hand with ardent intellectual curiosity, and tradition with innovation.”

Packaged in repurposable minimalist alabaster ceramic vessels, each candle comes with an individual quote on the inner lip.

So, next time you’re desirous of a getaway, why not utilise the power of scent to take to the stars instead?
