Dior Maison has teamed up with French designer Sam Baron on a tightly curated range of outdoor furniture. Encompassing a chair, armchair, and round and square tables, the collection puts an understated spin on the classic Dior medallion chair. Taking the storied piece outdoors, the oval silhouette is crafted from green metal and features openwork cannage throughout.

But how can you tell it’s Dior? Does the green metal latticework feature an all-over Dior monogram like a Saddle Bag? Is the designer’s name engraved on a table leg? Does said table leg open up to reveal an unending supply of Dior Sauvage? Alas, Baron’s take is far more delicate.

To most, the collection looks almost indistinguishable to the standard — yet still chic — bistro and park furniture found in Paris. However, nods to Dior’s heritage can be seen in the collection; the medallion silhouette itself originated during the reign of Louis XVI and was later adopted by Christian Dior as seating for guests at his shows (dressed in clothes of its own, of course). With one of these pieces comes the knowledge that unlike sporting a Saddle Bag or donning a Bar jacket, most observers won’t know it’s Dior at first sight. Or even second sight. However, Dior’s target audience is likely ok with that.
Deemed an ‘object of desire’ by Dior, the furniture will be found in Dior cafes around the world, at The Pâtisserie at 30 Avenue Montaigne, and available in Dior physical stores.
