Knives Out: Off-White & Victorinox Release a Sculptural $1000 Switchblade

"Swiss Army Knife"

American luxury fashion house Off-White has teamed up with heritage Swiss brand Victorinox to create a bold and sculptural take on the traditional Swiss Army Knife. Uniting functionality and utilitarianism with architectural details, the Off-White™ c/o Victorinox Limited Edition Swiss Army Knife is a multi-blade tool that draws inspiration from the ancient tools used during the stone age.

Designed over the span of two years in collaboration with the late Virgil Abloh, the Off-White™ c/o Victorinox Limited Edition Swiss Army Knife sees the designer look to the beginning of mankind for inspiration. The design of the blades represents the shapes of the ancient tools crafted from stone, with the rounded edges of the blades unconventionally protruding from the corpus of the pocket knife, lending it a distinct appearance. When positioned in alignment with each other, the blades combine to resemble a fig leaf; another allusion to the beginning of mankind in the form of Adam and Eve.

Continuing the stone age theme is the choice of materials used for the key components of the knife. The Off-White™ c/o Victorinox Limited Edition Swiss Army Knife utilises Corian Solid Surface, a solid, non-porous homogenous surfacing material. Used for the first time by Victorinox, the innovative substance is composed of resin and natural minerals, including aluminium trihydrate, which is derived from a sedimentary rock called bauxite. The effect is a material that feels like real stone to the touch, accompanied by a degree of heft and resilience to scratches and wear.

The scales of the Swiss Army Knife are white, complemented by black prints. The front scale features the Victorinox Cross & Shield logo, while the back houses motifs that depict the evolution from stone to tool.

Limited to 3000 units, the Off-White™ c/o Victorinox Limited Edition Swiss Army Knife is priced at $999AUD and is available via the Victorinox webstore.
