Developed alongside the DB12 Coupe, the DB12 Volante boasts the same aesthetic, engineering, and technological advancements made by its stablemate. Positioning itself as a driver’s car through and through, its bonded aluminium structure ensures torsional rigidity to enhance performance and handling; with the Volante said to deliver the same unparalleled driving experience as the Coupe. Advanced engineering has led to a 3.7% increase in overall torsional rigidity, aided by modifications to rear suspension upper mounting points and lateral connections.

Under the metal, the twin-tubo 4.0-litre V8 engine delivers 671 bhp and 590 ft-lb of twist—the same stats as the DB12 Coupe—taking it from 0 to 100km/h in 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 325km/h. Like the Coupe, the DB12 Volante sees power fed to the wheels via a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, with a range of shift strategies working to complement each of the dynamic driving modes.

At the heart of the Volante experience is the electrically-operated ‘K-fold’ roof, which derives its name from its two-stage folding mechanism which ensures an ultra-low 260mm stack height. Lowering to sit under a hard tonneau cover to create a sleek sculpted tail, the K-fold roof is designed to look good top up or top down. Aligned with its ‘super tourer’ proclamation, the roof design allows for maximised luggage capacity and swift operation; taking 14 seconds to open and 16 seconds to close, it’s operable at speeds up to 50km/h. The fabric roof comes standard in black, with red, blue, and black and silver available as options.

“The Volante possesses all the Super Tourer characteristics successfully introduced in the DB12 Coupe. The fact that we have retained these class-leading performance and agility qualities speaks to the brilliance of the DB12 platform and the work we’ve done to maintain the benefits of its superb engine and chassis in an open version,” says Roberto Fedeli, chief technical officer at Aston Martin. “It’s no longer the ‘softer’ option; on the contrary, the DB12 Volante offers the thrills of a true sports car with the unique pleasure and satisfaction that only an Aston Martin convertible can provide.”
