This Rolls-Royce Phantom Captures The Allure Of Italy’s Cinque Terre

Wine not?

An automotive encapsulation of the heady allure of the Italian riviera, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Cinque Terre is the British marque’s latest bespoke project. The Cinque Terre — Italian for ‘five lands’ — encompasses the fishing villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore, located on the coast of Liguria in northern Italy. Overlooking the Mediterranean, the quintet is famed for their steeply terraced vineyards, which are celebrated in the design of the Phantom Cinque Terre.

The exterior is executed in a deep shade of Livurian blue, accented with a hand-applied double coachline in Navy Blue and Jasmine. Nodding to the viticultural heritage of the region, the coachline is intersected with a delicate grape motif.

The interior sees Grace White and Navy Blue leather adorned with Jasmine accents. The grape motif makes its way inside, with grape-branch embroidery on the rear door in lustrous satin, with each decal requiring 9215 stitches. The picnic tables are also inlaid with the same motif, this time executed in stainless steel and gold plating. Each surface was first painted in Milori blue which features a subtle sparkle, before inlays were applied and sealed with a clear lacquer. Meticulous sanding and hand-polishing ensures a seamless finish.

The signature Rolls-Royce starlight headliner is embroidered with a map of Italy. Comprising 14,338 individual stitches, it’s crafted from shimmering thread and illuminated by five glowing stars — one for each of the villages along the Cinque Terre.

The fascia is brought to life with artwork that captures the singular architecture and vibrant character of the Cinque Terre. Amalgamating elements from each of the quintet of villages, the composition was rendered digitally before being airbrushed by hand using water-based acrylic paint to achieve a high level of detail, before being sealed with clear lacquer. Rounding out the viticultural ode is silver debossing inside the glove compartment, which depicts the five villages.

Commissioned for a (likely wine-loving) client, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Cinque Terre follows the release of two of the marque’s most expensive bespoke commissions: the Amethyst Droptail and La Rose Noire Droptail.
