The reintroduction of Brooks Brothers into Australia is accompanied by a dedicated local webstore. The aforementioned Autumn/Winter 23 collection is designed by Brooks Brothers’ creative director Michael Bastian, formerly of Ralph Lauren and GANT, and pays homage to the American fashion label’s heritage while reimaging it for the contemporary consumer.
Menswear favourites such as colour-blocked rugby shirts, non-iron shirts, jackets, sweaters, and polos feature heavily, while the womenswear side is defined by tailored pieces — think tailored shirts, versatile dresses, blazers, and soft bow blouses — designed to be mixed and matched. Put simply, Bastian’s collection features the pieces that make Brooks Brothers what it is, with classic tailoring and preppy staples taking centre stage.
“One of the things I love most about traditional preppy style is that the elements are usually very simple pieces,” says Bastian. “The magic is in how it’s all put together— there’s a lot of room for personal style. It could just be an unexpected pairing up or playing with proportion or colour, or just wearing it very simply, but the basic pieces never really change that much. And that’s the beauty of this kind of classic American style”
