Dion Lee FW21 Takes Its Cues From The Equine

Never one to shy away from an interesting overarching concept, Dion Lee FW21 uses the language of horses and breathing to explore feelings of strength and control.

Titled ‘Horsepower’, the collection puts an equine spin on key design signatures, merging Dion Lee’s sharp use of architectural silhouettes and flair for highlighting the female form with elements like saddlery, bridles, blinders, and stirrups. Infamous Dion Lee Corsetry is brought to life through an abundance of strappy leather pieces in the form of harnesses and belts that utilise traditional saddlery-making techniques while ribbed knitwear and crochet corsetry work to soften looks and achieve equilibrium.

Equestrian-inspired touches work their way into utilitarian outerwear which features integrated saddlery in waterproof canvas, calf hair, and shearling. Meanwhile Dion Lee FW21 takes a deconstructed approach to knitwear, with striped cotton ribbed V-neck sweaters used to create harnessing tube tops. Y-front underwear is appropriated into interlocking leggings and bodysuits, creating a striking effect.

Each look from Dion Lee FW21 is paired with shoes created in collaboration with Parisian label both footwear. The collaboration features six styles, including heeled ankle boots and knee-high and thigh-high utility boots which incorporate custom Dion Lee hardware.
