Fendi Revives The Gentlemanly Roaring ‘20s for Men’s FW22 (Complete With NFTs)

For Fendi FW22 menswear, Silvia Venturini Fendi turns her back on the loungewear-oriented approach many fashion houses are taking, instead opting for a return to the elegance of the previous century. Fendi FW22 heralds the era of the neo-dandy, reimagining the sartorial archetype for the contemporary man by riffing on perennial classics.

Staid symbols of masculine elegance are given a distinctly digital makeover, with 3D pearl and diamond prints adorning the collection alongside shearling floral brooches, pearl O’Lock chokers, and crystal FF pendants. Meanwhile, rigid lines of Fendi tailoring give way for softer silhouettes, with modular garments combining suiting, knitwear, and streetwear in one. Blazers extend into flat capes, wide trousers are accompanied by a half-skirt, and scooped jackets and knits feature clavicle-exposing keyhole details. Voluminous proportions lend a playful touch to familiar sartorial tropes, while comparatively demure coats in houndstooth and camel cashmere flapped open with the motion of the models wearing them to reveal monogrammed Fendi lining.

Rich shades of black, cream, burgundy, raspberry, mocha, taupe, and white form a colour palette fit for the bourgeois dandies of today, with the collection abound with luxurious materiality and dramatic graphics. The former element includes Vichy check tweeds, houndstooth suiting, satin tuxedo trims, and striped silk jacquards, all of which are played up or styled down. Eveningwear takes on a distinctly subversive tone, with Fendi recalling its SS22 menswear show with cropped double-breasted jackets paired with ultra high-waisted torso-hugging formal trousers, and tailcoats styled over Mary Jane brogues secured with wristwatch straps.

And, for the contemporary dandy who doesn’t stray further than the computer screen, Fendi has released two NFTs in the form of Baguette and O’Lock bags, designed to be used with digital hardware wallet LEDGER Nano X. In terms of accessories residing in the physical world, the Peekaboo bag takes on a structured, architectural form as a shopped bag, while the Baguette is scaled up to am FF-embossed soft trunk and shrunk down to miniature proportions, appearing as a miniature chain bag atop the signature rigid trunk.
