McLaren Automative has long been known for its prowess on the race track. Now, the British marque is taking on the running track in a new collaboration with footwear brand Athletic Propulsion Labs. The result of the McLaren x APL collab is a luxury, performance-oriented silhouette dubbed the ‘HySpeed’.

Designed as an all-purpose running trainer, the APL x McLaren Hyspeed features a slew of technical elements and aerodynamic properties that utilise APL’s signature technology while referencing elements of the latter’s supercars. Available in five different colourays, there’s McLaren Orange, White/McLaren Orange, White/Black/Ombre, Rose Dust/Creme, and Energy/Metallic Silver up for grabs.
“One of the greatest commonalities between APL and McLaren is our quest to make beautifully designed products that perform at the absolute highest level, and that is exactly what we have done with this collaboration,” said APL co-founders Adam and Ryan Goldston of the collaboration.
A three-piece segmented midsole features APL FutureFoam pods in the front and rear, linked by a full-lenth carbon fibre plate. A new nitrogen-infued midsole compound provides further responsiveness and compression. The HySpeed also features a microfibre heel with extended wings internal advanced fitment system with three-piece cushion heel padding, as well as APL’s Souffle Sockliner for maximum comfort.
Details from McLaren cars are subtly referenced, with the tread pattern inspired by performance tyres designed with speed and grip in mind.
“APL has developed new technologies specifically for this shoe – inspired by our ground-breaking work using lightweight materials – which also maximises the wearer’s comfort and experience,” said Goran Ozbolt, acting design director at McLaren Automotive. “Like stepping into a McLaren, it is all about optimising performance, agility and speed.”
The McLaren x APL HySpeed sneakers are priced at $750AUD and available via the APL webstore.
