This Year’s Monaco Grand Prix Trophy Comes In A Louis Vuitton Case

Louis Vuitton is solidifying its involvement in the sporting world. As well as an ongoing collaboration with the NBA, so far expressed via two capsule collections, the luxury French fashion house has joined forces with the Automobile Club de Monaco in a new multi-year partnership. The first order of business? A bespoke Louis Vuitton handcrafted trunk to house the trophy for the 78th Monaco Grand Prix.

Taking place later this week, the 78th Monaco Grand Prix returns to the Formula 1 calendar after a year-long hiatus. First held in 1929, the Monaco Grand Prix has been one of the most prestigious automobile races in the world. Alongside the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Indianapolis 500, the Monaco Grand Prix forms the unofficial Triple Crown of Motorsport. With 19 turns, the 3.4km track has been dominated by many racing greats, with the likes of Ayrton Senna, Graham Hill, Michael Schumacher, Alain Prost, and (naturally) Lewis Hamilton taking home the title.

This year, the Monaco Grand Prix takes place on Sunday the 23rd May 2021. While its participants likely don’t require any additional inducement to aim for number one, we think the Louis Vuitton trunk this year’s trophy comes in is a pretty good one. Known as the Trophy Travel Case, the trunk was handcrafted in the luxury French fashion house’s workshop in Asnières, located on the outskirts of Paris. The Louis Vuitton Trophy Travel Case features the signature all-over monogram canvas, taking form in the same shade of red as the Monaco flag. The front of the trunk is emblazoned with a giant ‘V’ for victory in red and white stripes, with brass hardware adding a vintage touch to the piece.
