The Montblanc Star Legacy LE1786 Blue Capsule Exudes Graceful Elegance

Drawing inspiration from the Mont Blanc mountain that inspired the eponymous Maison’s creations, Montblanc has added three new timepieces to its range, sitting within the new Montblanc Star Legacy LE1786 Blue Capsule. Founded in 1906, Montblanc derives its name from the Mont Blanc mountain, the peak of which became a reminder to strive for the greatest heights for the founders of the German luxury goods brand.

Initially created in 1913, the Montblanc emblem represented a bird’s eye view of the Mont Blanc mountain range, with its six glacier valleys. This emblem served as the inspiration for the first Montblanc Star Legacy watch collection in 1997 and continues to provide inspiration for the latest capsule.

The Montblanc Star Legacy LE1786 Blue Capsule comprises three limited-edition timepieces; an Automatic Date 39mm, a Moonphase 42mm, and a Chronograph 42mm. The dial of each model takes on a deep blue hue and is adorned with a layered ice design inspired by the Mer de Glace, the main glacier in the Mont Blanc region, with the centre of the dial created using a stamp. Meanwhile, the intense blue shade is reflective of how the glaciers appear during dusk, known as L’Heure Bleue or ‘The Blue Hour’. It was during this time on 7th August 1786 that Jacques Balmat became the first person to reach the summit of the Mont Blanc, with that defining year giving this capsule its name.

The form of each timepiece is inspired by early 20th century Minerva pocket watches, defined by their pebble-shaped cases and domed sapphire crystals. Signature characteristics include the onion crowns, leaf-shaped hands, railway minute track, and Montblanc emblem featuring on the crown and seconds hand.

The Montblanc Star Legacy Automatic Date comes in a stainless steel case with rose gold hands and Arabic Breguet numerals which stand out on the dark blue dial. The Montblanc Star Legacy Moonphase takes on a similar aesthetic, with the addition of a moonphase complication at 6 o’clock, which overlaps with the textured glacier pattern in the background. The moon and stars are coated with rose gold and surrounded by a round date indicator. Meanwhile, the Montblanc Star Legacy Chronograph has two counter sub-dials at 3 and 9 o’clock, as well as a date window at 6 o’clock.

Both the Chronograph and Moonphase come on a choice of a stainless steel bracelet or blue alligator leather strap, while the Automatic Date comes on a stainless steel bracelet or blue calfskin leather strap.

Priced from $3,170 AUD onwards, each timepiece is limited to 1786 examples and is available via the Montblanc webstore
