Omega Injects A Pop Of Colour Into The Popular Aqua Terra Models

Whether it’s a dive watch crafted from precious metals or a secret watch housed within the head of a serpent, there’s always something interesting about a timepiece that subverts expectations. Last week, Swiss watchmaker Omega announced an update to its Aqua Terra collection, alongside a slew of covetable releases.

Omega Injects A Pop Of Colour Into The Popular Aqua Terra Models

Aligning with the 20th anniversary of the Omega Aqua Terra, the line is the equivalent of what the Oyster Perpetual is to Rolex; a versatile, everyday-wear alternative to dressier or more tool-oriented watches. Available in 34mm and 38mm case sizes, the Omega Aqua Terra is equal parts durable and dressy, bridging the gap between the Seamaster and Constellation lines to form a true all-rounder.

Innocuous by nature, the Omega Aqua Terra isn’t designed to scream, instead sitting self-assuredly on the wrist. However, the new Aqua Terra releases inject a dynamic pop of colour into the line, perhaps seeking to capitalise on the colourful watch dial trend best epitomised by the impossible-to-buy colourful Rolex Oyster Perpetuals released two years ago. Introducing ten new dial variants into the mix, the 38mm is available in Atlantic Blue, Bay Green, Sandstone, and Saffron; while the 34mm is available in hues of Sea Blue, Lagoon Green, Sandstone, Shell Pink, and Lavender. To achieve the vibrantly toned dials, Omega utilised an individual vapour deposition process, either chemical (CVD) or physical (PVD), representing technology the Swiss luxury watchmaker only recently gained access to.

While the new models look almost identical to their predecessors, the case now takes on a polished appearance. The bracelet has also undergone a minute alteration, with the three-link stainless steel bracelet featuring polished central links and brushed external links. Both the 34mm and 38mm sizes are powered by the in-house Omega Calibre 8800 movement which features a 55-hour power reserve.

Simultaneously understated and statement-making, the new Omega Aqua Terra just might fill the Oyster Perpetual-sized hole in our hearts.

The Omega Aqua Terra is available via the Omega webstore and in physical stores worldwide, priced from $8,750 AUD.
