Omega’s Laser-Etched Worldtimer Collection Sheds Its Nautical Aesthetic

Set to invalidate the excuses of perpetually late jetlagged individuals, Omega has added three new models to its Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer collection. Designed to simultaneously track every time zone on Earth, the Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer collection was introduced in 2017 and — like the rest of the Aqua Terra line — straddles the boundary between dressy and sporty.

However, the new releases — one titanium and two stainless steel — lean into the former. While previous Omega Worldtimers heavily referenced the nautical influences of the line with a blue or white dial, both with a blue map in the centre, the new releases skew more formal. Clad in tones of green and grey, they’re equal parts subdued and striking, looking more at home tucked under a suit cuff than strapped around a wetsuit.

At the heart of each of the new releases is — literally — a new world. The central map on each dial depicts the Earth as viewed from above the North Pole, with Omega using laser ablation atop a titanium surface to create these. Intended to resemble the curvature of the Earth, the watchscape is ever so slightly domed — an element indiscernible to the untrained eye. A 24-hour indicator, divided into day and night sections, encircles the central map. The trio all feature 43mm cases, with the heft drawing some ire on Instagram and the comments section of certain watch forums. However, as the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer quite literally needs to carry the world (albeit in miniature form), we’ll allow it.

Not only does the 43mm titanium Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer utilise a different material to its stainless steel siblings, it’s crafted using a unique laser-etched process. The entire black and grey dial, right down to the colours, was produced by laser. The exception is the hand-applied red vanish on the word London. A black ceramic dial with blackened hands and indexes, both filled with SuperLumiNova that glows blue in the dark, complement the matte black dial. The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer in titanium is fitted with a black rubber strap with contrast grey stitching.

Defined by shades of green, both of the stainless steel variants also measure in at 43mm. A green sun-brushed dial is surrounded by a polished brushed green ceramic bezel. A truly Australian colour palette of green and gold comes into play, thanks to a coating of Omega’s moonshine gold on the hands and indexes. The first iteration is presented on a stainless steel bracelet with a butterfly clasp while the second has an integrated green rubber strap with contrast grey stitching.

Each of the trio is powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8938, which has been certified by Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), and is equipped with water-resistance to 150m.

The Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer collection is priced from $16,025AUD and is available via the Omega webstore.
