Manning Cartell x Nathan Paddison Fuses Abstract Expressionism With Elegant Tailoring

Abstract Expressionism Meets Elegant Tailoring In Manning Cartell x Nathan Paddison

Australian womenswear brand Manning Cartell has released the latest instalment of its Artist In Residence program, this time collaborating with self-taught contemporary artist Nathan Paddison. The Stories Interrupted collection draws from Paddison’s raw and emotive style of painting, with his The Queen of Spades and The Queen of Diamonds artworks splashed across the collection, found on pieces like silk scarves, slip dresses, shirts, and shirt dresses.

Simultaneously knowing and naive, Paddison’s raw artistic style spans multiple mediums, including acrylic paint, spray paint, charcoal, and oil sticks. “He paints his experiences through the eyes of someone he’s become,” says Cheryl Manning, co-founder of Manning Cartell. “He channels his past experiences through bold colour language and larger-than-life characters.”

Informed by the strong lines and bold colours found in Paddison’s artwork, the Manning Cartell Stories Interrupted collection is defined by contrasts: light and dark colours, textured and sheer fabrics, and dusted pastels and bright hues. Throughout the collection, silver, gold, and black tones add a touch of glamour, while hues of red and pink create striking tailored options. Luxury meets utility in high-shine vegan leather pieces that draw inspiration from the silhouettes of the 1990s, while sky blue denim is delicately distressed and reimagined in soft tailored styles.

The Stories Interrupted collection is available via the Manning Cartell webstore.
