As has become quotidian in the fashion industry of late, the Miu Miu FW21 collection has escapism at its heart. Taking place in the picturesque powder-covered landscape of Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Dolomites, the collection tired ‘Brave Hearts’ sees a diverse range of Miu Miu women traverse the snowy slopes.

Solid, stoic, and solitary, the women walk down one by one, physically alone but bound by a shared sartorial vision as they head towards the unknown. An après-ski style aesthetic runs through the entirety of the show, fusing with other themes like sportswear and intimate attire. Teddy bear faux fur surrounds models like skin, while knitted ski helmets and ski masks adorn faces, providing protection from the elements. Layers of knitted bras, silk satin dresses, and lace garments convey the retention of a sense of delicacy and softness in the face of struggle.
Miu Miu FW21 postulates lingerie as armour; with slips cut from heavy wools and padded sportswear taking on lingerie-like elements of satin fabric and pastel tones. Making the utilitarian fantastical and the luxurious practical.
